Wild Ones FAQ

  1. How much time do you actually spend outside? We spend 99% of our time outside. The only times we are indoors is when it’s extremely cold, pouring rain, dangerous conditions, or have a specific project that needs an indoor space.
  2. Are the nature walks difficult? Usually, we try to keep the hikes within an easy or easy intermediate level. We will let you know if a particular trail is not stroller friendly. Remember, we try to get deep into nature, so most trails will require babies to be worn or carried. Most trails are on the easier side, but forest floors don’t typically make wheels easy to use.
  3. How long do field trips last? Our field trips typically start at 11:00 am and usually last about two hours, but this depends on the facilities, the plans, etc. We always have a lunch break planned. We may also have a secondary location planned if the facilities do not have space for kids to run and eat.
  4. What does your typical Thursday look like? On Thursdays, we meet at a specific location at 10:00. Around 10:15, we will have our welcome circle where we talk about the plans for the day while kids practice knot tying or another survival skill. We will tell parents about the upcoming plans, field trips, and activities. Then we may start by telling the kids what to expect, read a book, or go around the circle to share something fun and interesting. After our circle, we break out into activities. Kids have lunch when they are hungry, but we usually have a break from 11j:30ish to 12:15ish for everyone to eat and have fun.
  5. Do you require attendance or a certain amount of times we must attend a field trip or other event? No. We do not require attendance at all. If you would like to come once year, only to field trips, only to 4H, etc, that’s perfectly fine. All we ask is that you respond going in events so we know whether or not to expect you. Some field trips do require a headcount, so we will need you to let us know if you plan to come and commit to it. If something comes us and you are unable to attend after all, just let us know via email or message.
